A Dog’s Life for Retired Sniffers in India

Interesting article here about detection dogs and what happens to them when they retire. Apparently they have rules on what to do with horses and elephants when they retire but not dogs. 

MUMBAI: Lyka sits patiently as her handlers fuss over her, drawing the attention of passersby at the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad’s building near the police commissionerate. Like most of the sniffer dogs here, she has spent her entire life working with the department, detecting explosives.
